Abstract: An Analysis of Drug Abuse at a Selected Secondary School. The article considers an analysis of the abuse of addictive substances by students studying at the Secondary Vocational College and Grammar School in Staré Město. An interview with the school prevention methodologist was carried out during the performance of the research, and a questionnaire survey conducted among 206 students at the school. With a view to the drug issues that are currently targeted at the school according to the school prevention methodologist, the research questionnaire focused first and foremost on analysing the abuse of marijuana, tobacco products and alcoholic beverages by the students at the given school.

Abstract: Information Sources, Information, and Their Effectiveness in Determining Secondary School Students’ Choices of Further Educational Pathway and Careerpp. The present study is an overview of formal and informal sources of information that are currently used by students of upper-secondary technical and vocational schools in deciding on the course of their education and careers, and their availability and effectiveness evaluate on the basis of respondents’ subjective assessment. It also maps information that students consider to be important in career desicion-making. These findings are necessary to make the work of educational consultants, school psychologists and career counsellors more effective. They are also necessary for teachers of career education. For this purpose, a quantitatively oriented empirical survey, designed by the National Institute of Education, School Counselling Centre and Centre for Further Education of Teachers was carried out. Data was collected via paired questionnaires for students in the final year of upper-secondary school and their parentpp. Data collection was carried out in 2011 at twenty secondary technical schools and vocational schools in four regions of the Czech Republic. The sample consists of 442 students and their parent.

Abstract: The Subjectively Perceived Quality of Life of Seniors Living in Institutional Conditionpp. The presented work considers the quality of life of seniors living in institutional (residential) conditionpp. It is necessary to think about whether the increasing number of older people and their increasing age are growing proportionately to the quality of their livepp. It is important to increase and improve the quality of life of older people, as healthy, wise and happy old people are a reflection of a mature society. In our work, we present the testimony of various old people, which gives us the opportunity of perceiving their subjective views on their quality of life.

Abstract: The Development of the Communication Skills of Individuals Living in Homes for People with Disabilitiepp. This paper concentrates on the area of special educational support provided to individuals living in homes for people with disabilities in the Czech Republic and presents partial research results illustrating the state of the provision of speech therapy to users of social services facilities falling under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairpp. The subject of the research is an analysis of support for the development of the communication skills of pupils living in social services facilitiepp. The partial results of the research outline the approaches employed by the managerial staff of the given facilities in implementing special educational procedures, describe forms of speech therapy provision in homes for people with disabilities, and compare the attitudes of teachers and social services staff to the development of communication with the importance attributed to it by speech therapists and demonstrated by the case studies performed.
