The paper deals with the identification of real effects arising in adult education. The core question is whether various forms of adult education always produces any positive effects (benefits) and of which kind. The paper describes selected concepts of efectiveness of adult education and attempts to measure the effects, mainly of further professional education. Also, some rare sceptical opinions claiming the non-existence of effects in adult education are compared with empirical evidence of the effects.
